What do you do when you have a fine big hall but lots of groups needing additional space, or two groups who need to run simultaneously but cannot due to the overflow of noise in the large area?  At just the right time a Community Enhancement grant programme was announced by Cork City Council and The Carraig Centre was successful in attracting grant funding of €30,000 to cover the majority of the cost of installing movable soundproof partitions!

These partitions create a new usable space towards the large double doors of the Main Hall.  This is now used daily by one of our major clients, Enable Ireland Adult Day Services and several other groups in the evenings.  Access to the larger front part of the Main Hall can be through the new space or if needed for privacy reasons through access corridors from the outside play areas.

Staff and users of the new space say that it meets a large variety of requirments and gives much improved flexibility.  Work was completed on the supply and installation by KCC Group in early September 2023.

The grant was awarded through Cork City Council’s Community, Culture and Placemaking Directorate under a programme from the Department of Rural and Community Development Community Enhancement programme.

The Carraig Centre (www.carraigcentre.ie) is a busy Parish and Community Centre at the heart of Balllincollig which hosts around 40 different community group activities and services from almost all sectors of the wider Ballincollig and Cork communities.  The Centre is operated by The Carraig Parish and Community Centre CLG under the general auspices and ethos of the Church of Ireland, Carrigrohane Union of Parishes.
